Times have changed

"He sings the songs that remind him of the good times he sings the songs that remind him of the better times"

Strange are the ways of life .. A beautiful day of Spring in Phoenix with temperature around 65 F. I was talking to my sweetheart about the general stuff as in how she is busy preparing itinerary for her parent's visit for her graduation and reiterating the fact that I should start working on it to ;) . I just happened to read out the breaking news on CNN. It was about a shooting in Michigan . Usne bola ki she is alone at home and would prefer hearing some happy news instead of these sick news. I went through the page and was surprised to see not even one news that I could term as non sad forget about a happy news. Shoot outs, Accidents,  Job loss, Recession... this is what we call news today. I never realized it and I think it became a part of life for me to read these news and expect them to repeat everyday in some new way.  Sigh!!!  I think music can make me happy and that reminds me of one fav song of mine..

More to come?

It is a nice beautiful rainy day and I am sitting here on my couch going through news that might not be as impressive as the day.
One of the article on businessweek.com talks about the 598,000 jobs lost in January.. Whoa !! That's a big number and made me a little concerned about the people who were part of that number until I saw something else that was more troubling. There has been some recent changes in US policies about anything labeled international be it products or human capital. "Buy American" as it is called, is being promoted in light of the economic recession to promote American companies and save them. It was not a big concern coz now-a-days most of the stuff is manufactured in US and an immediate chnage in ploicy would not be effective. Moreover, products from other countries are cheaper and the consumers would like to buy stuff that is cheaper and save on some money for bad times.
But from nowhere comes a bill in Senate which talks about a limit i n H-1B visas. For all the companies that have got federal bail would not be able to recruit people on H-1B visas. Though it is not a direct restriction but the rules have been made so stringent that it makes it very tough for a comapny to even think about hiring an international profesisonal. Why would they take a pain for giving a justification to federal authorities when they are already in a mess up and have to justify themselves for so many other actions. Result: It makes it more difficult for the international students to look out for jobs in US especially in financial sector.
Moreover, a related provision was passed( though the bill has not yet been taken up by the Senate) in January that restricted outsourcing of work to other countries liek India, China. Companies part of the bail out have been restricted from outsourcing their call centres to foreign companies. Now doe sthat m ean that US companies that have opened their call centre division in India would be allowed to operate and take business form US companies? or is it a total ban of call centres in other countries for the bailed out firms? This is aspect is not yet sure but I think would be soon a matter of concern for Indian markets that have been booming on IT and Call centre revenues.

Every time I read about all these things only one thing crosses my mind. How bad is it gonna be before we start seeing good? An answer that is hard to find. May be Nostradamus has it... !!
